Grasshorse

Hey so some of you may be interested in this. Grasshorse is a local animation company that has worked on a lot of big budget shows and some lower budget things. I know some of you are interested in drawing characters. I met the owner and he is a really nice guy and loves to take on internships for Iowa students. I would check out the reel they have showing off some of their best work. And guess what! The owner did all of the backgrounds for PowerPuff Girls! They are based out of Washington, IA, just about 30 minutes south of here on HWY 218 (380).

At a seminar two weeks ago he and BudCat Creations (our local video game company) talked about how to get into animation and what companies are looking for. I like that these companies are local because it shows that you don't have to move to California or the coast to be able to take part in cinematics or gaming.

Oh Mikey!

Here's the link to a really weird but funny Japanese late night show:
Oh Mikey!

It's a pretty crazy show about an American family moved to Japan. It's in Japanese but there are English subtitles. the show is just ridiculous. Our tech guy Steve told me about it when he saw I was doing videos with the Sims. He's pretty sure that Old Navy took their modelquin idea from this show. I really like it because it's so awkward considering they never really move (unless you go to 19 mins in the show you see their legs moving under the sheets). I usually don't like weird Japanese stuff but this is really good! At one point the parents get into a fight and you just see their heads all twisted and their wigs falling off. I love the concept to this, whoever made it did really well with the jokes in it and emphasizing the awkwardness of the mannequins. I still haven't made it through more than two episodes, they are pretty long. But if you have time to watch it I would really recommend it!

I think that Mark will especially like this website:

It shows a 24 hour span of a couple different locations.
